Regulated Fares

Tariff 1 (7am – 7pm weekdays)

Flagfall: $3.40
Distance: $2.58/kilometre
Waiting time: $0.93/minute
Booking: $1.70 (Wheelchair & TSS card holder)
Toll/charge: Amount of toll or charge incurred during a hiring.

*Booking fee and Tolls are added directly to the fare when incurred

Tariff 2 (All other times including public holidays)

Flagfall: $5.50
Distance: $2.58/kilometre
Waiting time: $0.93/minute
Booking: $1.70 (Wheelchair & TSS card holder)
Toll/charge: Amount of toll or charge incurred during a hiring.

Tariff 4 (S1), 5 (S2) (Multiple Hiring)

Multiple hiring is permitted with consent of the first and subsequent hirers. Preset at 75 percent of the standard fare. Each hirer must pay the amount shown on the meter at their destination.

Tariff 7 (H1), 8 (H2) (People mover/maxi taxi/luxury/premium)

Surcharge may be applied to high occupancy, luxury and premium taxis if pre-booked and agreed by the hirer. No surcharge can be applied for high occupancy, luxury and premium taxis from a taxi rank or a hail. No surcharge can be applied for hirings that include a passenger in a wheelchair. Tariff 9 can only be applied for hirings that begin between midnight and 5am, 7 days a week. (Excluding ANZAC Day – 25 April)

Tariff 7 (H1), 8 (H2) (People mover/maxi taxi/luxury/premium)

Surcharge is applied to high occupancy, luxury and premium taxis if pre-booked and agreed by the hirer. By Booking or requesting this type of vehicle you acknowledge and accept that the 50% surcharge will be applied.

No surcharge can be applied for hirings that include a passenger in a wheelchair. Tariff 9 can only be applied for hirings that begin between midnight and 5am, 7 days a week. (Excluding ANZAC Day – 25 April)

Notes

The booking fee can only be charged to bookings recorded by a taxi booking company. Booking fees do not apply to rank or hail hirings. The waiting time is charged for each minute the taxi is stationary. (Whether during a journey or held for a hirer).

For all hirings terminating outside the Cairns Metered Taxi Area there is an additional “Return to Boundary” charge of $1.00 per kilometre.

All hirings to or departing from the Domestic taxi rank at the Cairns Airport incur a “toll” of $2.50, whilst departures from the International taxi rank incur a “toll” of $5.00 levied by the Cairns Airports PL and is added to the fare when the meter is started.

The passenger

Must fasten their seatbelt.
Fare evasion is an criminal offense. Maximum penalty $4400.
Users of mobility scooters must transfer to a fixed seat in the vehicle.

The driver

Can legally require a deposit of the estimated fare or agreed amount. Can legally charge the person who soils the taxi an additional amount (up to $147) for cleaning the taxi.

Taxi Subsidy Scheme

Member must travel in taxi for smartcard to be used for subsidised travel. Member to present smartcard to driver at start of trip. Driver to check photograph and expiry date and if valid, insert smartcard and leave in card reader until end of trip. Member to check payment details for accuracy. Driver must return smartcard to member at end of trip. Driver cannot refuse a valid TSS smartcard presented by a current member for part payment of their taxi fare.

Other

  • Smoking and/or consumption of food or drink is prohibited. Infringement penalty $200 (maximum penalty $2000)
  • No extra surcharge applicable for the carriage of luggage
  • All fares GST inclusive
  • Pricing effective from 1st July 2023
  • EFTPOS facilities in car may charge an additional fee for processing (5%)
